Budds Creek

What a difference a year makes. Last year we got soaked in what was probably the wettest race in Budds Creek history and this year the weather was perfect. Friday night it was about 65 degrees, perfect tent weather and Saturday it was pushing 90. We had a great time. This year we camped in the family area, who knew they had a family area, and it was a lot quieter. We got a place back by the trees away from the campers and generators and set up a nice camp. We tossed the football around for a bit and poor Roger jammed a thumb on a bad catch. The nail bed quickly turned purple and I got him a cup of ice to try and slow what ever his body was going to do. There was still a lot of sun so we decided to take a walk over to the track. It was the same layout as last year but some of the sections looked to be a lot more challenging. What had been a relatively simple up hill jump into a left hand turn had been changed. Now it was a four step, stepup, into the same left hand turn which was now littered with huge rolling moguls. From the top of the hill it really looked like it would be impossible to hit this fast but I knew they would. They day of the race it didn't even slow them down, the first jumped the second and the third cleared the top, unreal! I took a picture of Roger standing on the top but hills never show up in a picture so it looks flat.
The Budds Creek track is very good for watching a race, they left plenty of trees for shade and there are plenty of places where you can get right up to the track. We spent plenty of time walking around and hiding from the sun as much as possible. We got to see Andrew Short win the first 450 moto walking away with it from the very start. Short had the hole shot in moto 2 but at about lap four gave it up to Ryan Dungey who kept it to the end winning the second moto and the overall.
Christophe Pourcel picked up the first 250 moto and Dean Wilson won the second and the overall.
We had a great time, got Mike Alessi's autograph, and got to watch Chad Reed getting his number plate dirty.
