Its just me

The YZ has had a problem starting ever since I have owned it. I have tried all combinations of choke, throttle and massive kicking. The only thing that works is to pull the plug and spritz in a bit of ether, after that it will start every time. The last time that I had the carb apart I recorded all the bits and compared them to the stock items. The pilot jet was a 50 with stock being a 60 and the carb slide was a 4.5 with stock being a 4.0. When I can get it to start it won't idle, I can screw the idle screw all the way in and it still won't idle. This causes me problems in corners and downhills where the bike will often want to stall. I have enough problems in corners without having to bump start the bike.
Tonight I finally had a chance to work on the bike and I am hoping to go riding Friday. I pulled the carb apart and installed a used but stock 4.0 slide. I was shocked when the bike popped on the first kick and started on the second, it had never done that.
I let the bike warm up as I adjusted the idle and was surprised that I could get it to idle.
With the bike idling smoothly on the stand I grabbed a helmet, it was time for a quick blast down the street.
My wife had a friend over and they were sitting on the back porch talking as I blasted past the house. She filled me in later on the conversation.
“ Oh, you have one of them in your neighborhood too”.
“Yes”, said my wife, “It's my husband”.
I can't wait till Friday.
